Most of us have seen an episode or two, if not every episode of the fast-paced, exciting thriller: 24. I am a huge fan of CTU Agent, Jack Bauer and while most of us just enjoy the thrill of suspense and a heart pounding from not knowing what will happen next, as a Personal Assistent, my senses spots habits of effectiveness I can adopt on my job. Everyone is afraid of something!
Well almost, but I’m yet to meet a man who fears nothing. Fear has been described as an (unpleasant) emotion induced by the threat of danger, pain or harm (Google results). Wikipedia defines it as, and I quote “an emotion induced by a threat perceived by living entities, which causes a change in brain and organ function and ultimately a change in behavior, such as running away, hiding or freezing from traumatic events” The article goes ahead to mention various kinds of fear but for the purpose of this blog, we will be concerned with fears that affect our jobs and careers and sometimes filter into our personal lives. Truth is, whether we are talking about the fear of death or that of heights, our reactions are almost the same and they tend to have similar effects on us. So the concept of time management really should be Self Management. I couldn’t agree more. Let’s turn on our creative mindset for just a minute and imagine that we all had the ability to pause time. Can you for a second imagine what the world would be like today? I am picturing a world where many of the things we see and enjoy today would never have been made. Many tasks would actually never get accomplished and many geniuses would have remained mere men. So the problem has never been time, it has always been you (and me, of course!) When we do not enjoy what we do, as is the case most of the time, it usually takes an extra amount of discipline to push ourselves to do and complete it. Continue reading
